Three Years Later: Am Yisrael, Remembrance, and the Hope for Peace 🕊️☮️ 🕊️
Remembering October 7, 2023, honoring those we lost, and holding on to hope for a better tomorrow.
Today is a heavy day.
Three years ago, the Jewish people experienced one of the most traumatic events of our lifetimes. On October 7, 2023, lives were shattered, families were torn apart, and the dreams and hopes of people who believed in the possibility of peace between our communities crumbled before our eyes.
Since that day, both the people of Israel and the people of Gaza have suffered deeply. So much has changed, and so much pain has been endured. I never could have imagined that three years later, we would find ourselves where we are today.
And yet, even in the darkness, there can be moments that remind us of the incredible strength of the Jewish people.
One of those things has been the coming together of Am Yisrael—the people of Israel.
For thousands of years, the Jewish people have faced persecution, exile, tragedy, and uncertainty. And time and time again, we have found ways to come together, support one another, remember those who came before us, and continue moving forward.
That is my hope today.
My dream and my prayer is that we can hold on to that sense of unity and carry it forward—not only with strength and resilience, but also with compassion and hope.
We can remember without forgetting the humanity of others.
We can mourn our dead while praying for an end to suffering.
We can stand together as Am Yisrael while still hoping for a future in which Israeli and Palestinian families can live without fear, violence, and war.
Remembering Those We Lost
May the memories of all who perished on October 7, 2023, and every day since then, be a blessing.
May we remember their names, their families, their dreams, and the lives they should have been able to live.
And may we never allow remembrance to become simply a date on the calendar. May it inspire us to build something better.
A Jewish Hope for Peace
There is a passage from the prophet Isaiah that has been part of the Jewish imagination for generations. It speaks of a future when humanity will finally move beyond war:
לֹא־יִשָּׂא גוֹי אֶל־גּוֹי חֶרֶב, וְלֹא־יִלְמְדוּ עוֹד מִלְחָמָה
“Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”
— Isaiah 2:4
Those words feel especially powerful today.
After everything we have witnessed, may we continue to dream of the day when children everywhere can grow up without knowing the terror of war.
May Israelis be able to live in peace and security.
May Palestinians be able to live in peace and dignity.
May families no longer have to bury their children.
And may the day come when the words of Isaiah are not simply a prayer for the future, but a description of the world we live in.
עם ישראל חי 🇮🇱
The people of Israel live.
We remember.
We mourn.
We stand together.
And we continue to hope.
May we all know peace. 🕊️
